Obama Names Peer-To-Peer Lawyer to DOJ Post |

President-elect Obama has named Tom Perrelli, a top lawyer for the music industry and an expert in illegal peer-to-peer file sharing, as Associate Attorney General.
The news is causing fear among some Internet policy advocates, but it could be good news for anti-child exploitation efforts. A top-ranking official at DOJ who understands the technologies used to traffic child pornography could accelerate DOJ's response to the crisis. The Bush Justice Department has floundered for years with little understanding at Main Justice about the technological opportunities being missed to locate child sexual abuse victims by tracking child pornography.
Perrelli was a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Clinton administration. He is currently a partner at Jenner and Block law firm in Washington, D.C., where his clients include the Recording Industry Association of America.
